Early Life and Education
Early childhood education (ECE) is an academic field that prepares children for lifelong learning. It stems from the belief of United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), that children’s early years are essential in meeting social, emotional, cognitive and physical development goals.
The early years are critical in developing self identity and self esteem in children as well as understanding their environment. They help children acquire skills necessary for positive interactions and forming meaningful relationships.
Educators, policymakers and civic leaders must recognize the connections between early experiences and a child’s later learning capacity, behaviors and physical and mental wellbeing. Studies indicate that healthy development during these crucial first few years lays a strong foundation for academic success, economic productivity, responsible citizenship and lifelong health.
