Adam Peck has enjoyed a distinguished and longstanding career in education. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Theatre at Lewis University, an MA in Communication Studies at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and finally his PhD in Higher Education Administration from The University of Texas at Austin.
He currently serves as Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs at Illinois State University and was previously Assistant Vice President and Dean of Students at Stephen F. Austin State University (SFA), located in Nacogdoches, Texas.
Early Life and Education
Adam Eugene Peck was born and raised in St. Elmo, Illinois by his parents William “Bill” Peck and Michele Jackson. He is survived by Michele as well as their two children – Jackson Noble and Jocelyn Jennifer – whom they share a strong bond.
He earned his degrees at Lewis University, Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville and The University of Texas at Austin and was an active participant in both communities and at home.
Professionally educated as a student affairs professional, he was SFA’s Dean of Students and Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs. Assisting numerous student organizations while living “The SFA Way”, revitalising the axe handle tradition and participating in campus wide COVID-19 response teams were all among his many duties at SFA. He enjoyed mentoring his student to become leaders within their community as well as always supporting diversity initiatives such as Diversity Equity Inclusion initiatives.
Peck has established himself as one of the leaders in student affairs. At Illinois State University, he currently holds the role of Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs where he oversees planning, budgeting and implementation for both undergraduate and graduate programs at this renowned university.
Peck previously served as Dean of Students and assistant vice president at Stephen F. Austin State University (SFA) in Nacogdoches, Texas.
He co-authored and edited Engagement and Employability – a book which laid the groundwork for helping students, business leaders, lawmakers understand the significance of cocurricular experiences in developing career readiness skills. As well as receiving many other professional awards he received NASPA’s 2017 Chester E. Peters Lecture Series award for best presentation regarding student activities.
Achievement and Honors
Adam Peck is a celebrated author and educator who pioneered B2B publishing. Over his prolific career, he has written numerous books and articles as well as editing several journals; serving on national and state boards; as well as giving hundreds of presentations.
He currently serves as Illinois State University (ISU)’s Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs. Prior to this position, he served as Dean of Students and assistant vice president at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas before coming to Illinois State.
He was an enthusiastic champion for diversity, equity and inclusion who supported many initiatives such as The Rainbow Floor and Night Walk to raise safety and raise awareness. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Adam Peck serves as Site Vice President at Pacific Gas & Electric’s Diablo Canyon Power Plant (DCPP), overseeing all operational departments and functions within it, such as Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Security and Radiation Protection.
He plays an instrumental role in expanding business for his plant. Additionally, he is an engaged member of his industry and serves on multiple boards.
Adam Peck is the great-grandson of Jacob and Lydia (Borden) Peck, founders of Mossy Creek in Jefferson County Tennessee (now Jefferson City). They owned one of the first lots ever sold in Knoxville.
