Adam Urness – Iowa State Women’s Basketball Coordinator of Player Development

Adam Urness has served as Iowa State University women’s basketball’s Director of Player Development since October 2016. Prior to that, he spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Simpson College.

On Tuesday, Clarion-Goldfield-Dows basketball player Rhett Darland received an anonymous Twitter message criticizing their single game scoring record and including an expletive as well as allegations of drug use.

Early Life and Education

Urness spent his summers while still in school working with Kingdom Hoops AAU organization as well as coaching at over 40 basketball camps around the country.

Rhett Darland experienced deep distress after Iowa State women’s basketball player development coordinator Adam Urness sent out tweets critical of him and making allegations of drug use, even though Urness attended his same high school and now lives nearby in Des Moines. Personal Life

Adam Urness and Amy Urness have three children together and enjoy being members of various local service organizations in Alexandria. Adam enjoys hunting and fishing as hobbies as well as spending time at his family cabin in Leaf Valley.

Simpson College awarded him his undergraduate degree in Sports Administration with a minor in Coaching in May 2012. Since October 2016 when joining Iowa State’s Women’s Basketball Staff he is responsible for recruiting coordination, player development, video editing and opponent scouting.

Last week, Reese Morris posted several disparaging social media messages directed at a high school student on social media. These posts included vulgar words and accusations that Rhett Darland used drugs, leading his school to set a single-game scoring record recently.
