Early Life and Education
She lived a full and fulfilling life filled with family, friends, pets and teaching. She enjoyed hosting neighborhood children at her house and serving as room mother, brownie leader and den mother – in addition to actively being involved with both church activities and the Women’s Political Council.
Her academic research specializes in Modern and Contemporary art, specifically abstraction, allegory and cross-cultural works. She teaches courses that incorporate theories from literature, psychology and anthropology in order to explore the complex relationship between art and culture. Gibson has an avid passion for designing spaces that foster learning, innovation and healing in people. She was responsible for designing the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab in Chicago which showcases translational medicine concepts.

She is known for mentoring young women professionals as well as her leadership abilities, in addition to being a respected business valuation and litigation support specialist who has assisted several high-profile clients.
She has written several academic texts, such as ACSM’s 11th Edition Guidelines for Exercise testing and prescription; for which she received the 2023 Recognition Award from SWACSM.
Passion for education has seen her publish multiple publications and presentations with student co-authors, volunteer at various organizations – including Quilts for Comfort program – and serve as lecturer to inspire and motivate her audience of students to achieve greatness.
Gibson is an esteemed art historian and chair of the Department of Art History at the University of Delaware. Additionally, she belongs to both International Association of Art Critics and Phi Kappa Phi.
Gibson made her Broadway debut as Eponine in Les Miserables in 1992 and then appeared as Rizzo/Sandy/Rizzo/Sandy during West End performances of Grease in London, setting box office records while touring U.S. Broadway tours of both shows.

Her research interests include studying physiological responses to exercise, merging applied and bench science approaches, and creating methods of measuring body composition.
