Bob Oliver

Oliver was an early power hitter for the Royals and contributed greatly to their early success in eight seasons of major league play, helping open doors for other Royals hitters and his son Darren as a result of playing alongside him.

Bob Oliver currently serves as CEO of Otsuka America Pharmaceutical and manages its $6B P&L. In this capacity, he oversees an array of premium brands within cardio-renal, neuroscience and oncology markets.

Robert Benedict Oliver led an active life that would have overwhelmed lesser men. He was a father, husband, businessman, award-winning golf writer, thoroughbred horse owner and film and theater producer – among many other things.

He is an active member of the Church of God International Ministries Council, an international position which requires him to travel widely throughout both the U.S. and abroad. Additionally, he serves as president of a company which excavates ground works for large construction projects such as airports and Walmart stores in Northwest Arkansas.

Ginny Oliver Scholl survives him, along with their children Gloria Oliver Scholl and Bobbi Dings of Johnston; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Additionally, son Darren spent 20 seasons playing major league baseball on nine different teams during his playing career.

Professional Career

Bob Oliver played major league baseball for eight different teams before transitioning to corporate executive at Otsuka America Pharmaceutical, Inc. as the portfolio director. Here he oversees innovative medicines and devices targeting neuroscience, cardiovascular, oncology, primary care markets.

He is responsible for leading the organization towards its vision that encompasses innovation, access and education. He encourages employees to view their work as fighting disease while challenging stigma and challenging the status quo.

Over his career, he has held positions of increasing responsibility in sales, marketing, business operations and management. His education includes both a BA from Rutgers University and an MBA from Saint Joseph’s University; additionally he belongs to University Christian Church as well as operating a baseball academy.

Over his tenure, Mr. Johnson held senior level positions with Wyeth and Johnson & Johnson pharmaceutical companies. Most recently he managed a $6B P&L at Otsuka America Pharmaceuticals where he played an instrumental role in building their portfolio of ABILIFY Maintena SAMSCA SPRYCEL medications.

His son Darren recalls that when Bob Oliver played minor league baseball, racism was still prevalent and some hotels or restaurants during road trips could not accommodate him and his teammates without police escorts to protect them. Yet, despite all this adversity he always maintained an outsized heart and contributed generously back into his community.
