Parish Episcopal knew they would face challenges in their pursuit of their third consecutive TAPPS Division I state championship when sophomore quarterback Sawyer Anderson assumed control. Coach Novakov was impressed by Anderson’s ability to rise up to the challenge and quickly earned trust among teammates as an essential Boilermaker target on recruiting trails.

Achievement and Honors

Dan Novakov has witnessed first-hand the Cotton Bowl’s rise and decline over its 41 year history. Beginning as an attraction in the early 70s, he witnessed it fall out of favor as BCS replaced it, only later returning as an elite New Year’s Day destination for college footballers.

Last summer when Parish Episcopal coach Scott Nady left, one of its requests to Novakov for finding his replacement was this. Could Novakov put the fifth-grade godson of an alumni through a short workout session?

Sawyer Anderson began summer workouts as a 135-pound rookie, but quickly earned the respect of his teammates. Novakov says Anderson has raw talent unrivaled by any other, yet it will be his mental approach and leadership abilities that set him apart at a higher level.
