Dan Merritt possesses a wide array of experience representing debtors, secured and unsecured creditors, and other significant constituencies in bankruptcy cases. He has taken leading roles in several large bankruptcies – PET producer M&G Chemical and aftermarket auto parts distributor OmniMax International being two examples.

Merritt serves as director of project estimating, working on various projects across multiple industries. Utilizing his construction industry knowledge and architectural education, he facilitates great dialogues with design teams while producing satisfactory results for our clients.

Hernando County had long been overlooked, with Marion and Lake Counties dominating. While Hernando still lacks enough court space for its growing population, Chief Judge Payne’s election as its inaugural Chief Judge marked an historic achievement for a county that has long been considered underrated. As Chief Judge Payne advocated on their behalf for funding additional judges.

Achievement and Honors

He is a two-time all-conference champion in cross country and holds the 5K cross country record at his school. Additionally, he participated in both of the state championships twice and holds both records in 800 meters events at his school.

He served in the U.S. Army before being honored with induction into both Surry County Sports Hall of Fame and Ring of Honor in 2022. At Howard Lake-Waverly-Winstead High School he earned six letters over six years competing in both cross country and track and field, where he earned three conference championships as well as all-state recognition twice.

He was an exemplary father, husband, and friend despite being killed in the line of duty. To honor his memory and legacy a memorial service featuring police cars, firetrucks, and EMS vehicles passed in procession to pay their respects to this amazing individual.

Personal Life

Dan was an incredible family man. After work each day he’d pack his children into his truck and explore Montana. He loved its natural beauty year-round.

His generosity and kindness extended to anyone in need; in particular he loved helping those residing at shelters for the homeless. Additionally, he enjoyed laughing heartily at good jokes he heard told by others and loved telling jokes himself.

He kept himself active after retiring by participating in projects and hobbies like playing golf four to five times each week and spending quality time with his family, which includes three adult children and six grandchildren. Daniel Merritt (Hailey), Dustin and Kimberly Roberts and MaKayla Merritt will miss him dearly; as will many nieces and nephews he leaves behind. He will forever remain remembered by all.

Daniel Merritt currently boasts an estimated net worth of $1.5 Million and maintains his personal life in private; no details regarding his spouse and children have been shared with us. Daniel and his brother who is also disabled veterans founded Nine Line Apparel which provides clothing designed exclusively for veterans – “founded by patriots for patriots.”
