Last month, Italy’s Planet Farms unveiled its inaugural high-tech vertical farming facility near Milan in Cavenago – the result of co-CEOs Luca Travaglini and Daniele Benatoff being childhood friends and creating it together as co-founders and co-CEOs of this venture.
Early Life and Education
Daniele Benatoff hails from Milan, Italy, and earned a Bachelor of Science with honors from Wharton School at University of Pennsylvania. Subsequently he worked for Goldman Sachs private equity for 10 years as well as managing their internal hedge fund before relocating to London and starting his own investment company focusing on technology and consumer products sectors as an angel investor.
Benatoff married Lila McKean Warburton on December 18, 2017, with their celebration taking place at Flamands Beach in St. Barth’s. Hundreds of family and friends filled up this idyllic location. Both parties shared an interest in music; sharing favorite tracks with followers. In addition, both supported causes related to nature preservation and sustainable agriculture as part of their environmental commitment.
Professional Career
Daniele Benatoff earned a BSc in Economics with honors from the Wharton School of Business at University of Pennsylvania and has worked at Goldman Sachs since 1999; first as an investment banking associate and later as manager of their internal hedge fund.
Planet Farms specializes in vertical farming. He has also been an active angel investor for years, investing primarily in technology and consumer product sectors.
In 2018, he wed Lila McKean Warburton in St. Barths at Flamands Beach with family and friends for a four-day celebration, complete with Lila walking down the aisle to an instrumental version of Andrea Bocelli’s Con Te Partiro as Lila made her entrance. Their ceremony was followed by cocktails and dinner at Hotel Taiwana.
Achievement and Honors
Daniele Benatoff holds a laudatory bachelor of economics degree from Wharton School at University of Pennsylvania and was honored with a Special Tony Award for his commitment to theatre. Known for working on many popular Broadway productions and receiving 10 Tony nominations.
Bennati had several wins during 2007, including one stage at Dreidaagse de Panne where he assisted teammate Alessandro Ballan in the final sprint. Although not riding the Giro d’Italia (Lampre focused on overall victory with Gilberto Simoni and Damiano Cunego), Bennati had great results at Paris-Nice.
Personal Life
Daniele Benatoff and Lila McKean Warburton married after an epic 10-day New Year’s affair on St. Barths, culminating in Flamands Beach ceremony and cocktails and dinner at Hotel Taiwana. Instead of sharing vows they wrote themselves, the couple shared their promises in front of friends and family before dancing the night away – Lila donned Oscar de la Renta gown.
Bennati found great success as a sprinter on Lampre-Caffita after emerging as a domestique role since 2002. Taking off from that role and becoming one of the top sprinters worldwide, he won both Giro di Toscana and Tirreno-Adriatico stage races while placing 5th in one stage and 28th overall at Milan-San Remo races.
As illness struck at the Tour of Flanders and forced him out, he eventually returned in 2005 with victories at Giro di Toscana, Coppa Placci and Giro di Toscana races as well as impressive points jersey finishes at Tour of Germany and Giro d’Italia events.
Net Worth
Daniele doesn’t release her income publicly, but it appears to be substantial as an actor. Daniele and Yohan appear on 90 Day Fiance: Love in Paradise as co-stars and in its spinoffs.
Benatoff and DeFries also ran event-driven hedge fund Benros Capital Partners LLP, which closed in 2013. After that fund’s dissolution, he joined Halcyon Asset Management LLC where he served as managing principal and co-head of their London office.
Last year, Eatable Evolution Fund invested 30 million euros in Planet Farms Holding – an Italian vertical farming startup. This investment represented Europe’s largest series A funding round that year. Planet Farms founder Luca Travaglini is an old friend and the two also work together on Eatable Evolution Fund (EEF).
