David Gillis is an accomplished musician and songwriter, having earned himself numerous accolades and awards for his work.

He is also a standup comedian, earning critical acclaim for his unique and unpredictable comedy style.

Early Life and Education

Gillis was raised in a family of musical extroverts. He enjoyed daydreaming and drawing pictures, but never particularly interested in school.

He began listening to stand-up comedy in the early 2000s and quickly discovered that practice made perfect. While he had some George Carlin CDs, he was more drawn to energetic comedians such as Carlos Mencia and Dane Cook.

In 2019, he was announced as a new cast member on the NBC sketch comedy series Saturday Night Live. However, four days later he was fired due to backlash over a clip from one of his podcast episodes from 2018.

David Gillis has been an experienced real estate and hospitality industry professional for over a decade. Recently, he was appointed managing broker of Long & Foster Real Estate’s Woodbridge/Prince William Parkway office in Virginia.

He enjoys a well-earned reputation within the community and is actively involved in several local organizations. When not working, he enjoys riding his motorcycle and spending quality time with family & friends.

He represents clients in Personal Injury – General: Plaintiff cases and Criminal Defense matters in Florida. Additionally, he is a member of the American Bar Association (ABA).

He enjoyed playing hockey, fishing and hunting. Additionally, he was an avid sports fan who particularly enjoyed watching NHL games.

He is survived by his wife Sally; children Emily Allaby (Michael) of Saint John and Matthew Gillis of Moncton; sisters Shirley Mackin, Theresa Cummings and Margaret Gaudet (Ron); nieces and nephews; as well as his brother-in-law Paul Mackin. He will be greatly missed by all his many friends.

Gillis began his junior hockey career with the Kingston Canadians of the Ontario Major Junior Hockey League (OMJHL). In 1978 he was selected in the first round, fifth overall by the Colorado Rockies in the NHL Entry Draft and spent 29 games with them; additionally he played for Fort Worth Texans of the Canadian Hockey League and scored 22 points in 29 matches.
