Gunderson was found guilty of having child pornography on computer hard drives and shipping it interstate. Additionally, he was charged with burglary and engaging in sexual acts without consent.
At sentencing, the District Court sentenced Gunderson to life imprisonment on the burglary charge and 100 years for trying sexual intercourse without consent. Furthermore, it imposed 51 conditions as part of his sentence should he be released from prison.
Early Life and Education
David Gunderson was raised in South Ogden, Utah. A member of the 38th ward of the Mormon church, he served as a Scout Explorer for their organization.
He earned his Eagle Scout award and graduated high school with honors in math and science. Later, he earned a Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Utah.
After graduating college, he relocated to San Francisco where he developed his writing skills and worked on his play Leap.
He then relocated to San Jose and became a professor of theater at the University of California, Santa Cruz. Additionally, he wrote plays that focused on women in history, science, and romance. Furthermore, he published numerous books on genealogy.
