David Houck, 25, Was Killed in Action in Iraq

David Houck, 25, died in Iraq while serving with Bravo Co., 1st Battalion, 8th Marines as a semi-automatic gunner and point man.

He fought in Fallujah and Mosul Airport, where he saw a rose growing amid the rubble. Additionally, he wrote letters to his girlfriend Amanda Pajdo expressing his hope of seeing their child Chloe Isabel soon after her birth.

Early Life and Education

Early in his life, David Houck lived in various places like Arizona and Washington before settling down in Wenatchee with adoptive parents Richard and Mary Houck who opened their hearts and home to him.

David began playing the violin at Mountville Elementary School and continued his studies at Hempfield High School. Ultimately, David graduated from Millersville University with a music education major.

He also spent time playing the viola at Pennsylvania Academy of Music, where he was part of their orchestra and chamber ensembles as well as receiving training in music theory.

On November 26, 2004, Lance Corporal David Houck was tragically killed while serving in Iraq and was buried at Arlington National Cemetery. Thousands attended his funeral service that day.

At the service, his parents and brother shared words of tribute about him. They described him as a vibrant young man with boundless energy and an infectious sense of humor.

On November 26, 2004, Marine Lance Corporal David Houck was tragically lost in action while serving with the 1st Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division and II Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina.

He died as a result of enemy action in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. At the time of his passing, he was 25 years old.

His parents, Bob and Beth Houck of Millbridge, expressed their pride in their son’s service to his country. Additionally, they commended his ability to find direction after joining the Marines in 2002.

Family members reported that their son had been reluctant to shake hands or hug people before joining the Marines, but that changed after returning from his first tour of duty in Iraq, they said.
