David McCreary

David McCreary is an American gymnastics coach who joined the University of Arizona in 2006. With over two and a half decades of top-level coaching expertise under his belt, McCreary brings with him an unmatched expertise to his role.

Prior to his college athletics career, McCreary served as head coach and competitive team program director for the Arizona Sunrays from 2000-2005 in Phoenix. Additionally, he was an assistant coach at Oregon State and served eight years on the USA Gymnastics Elite Program Committee.

After his professional football career ended, McCreary spent 20 years in sales and marketing within the furniture industry before founding McCreary Modern. This North Carolina-based firm is known for its high quality products as well as its commitment to employee involvement through an Employee Stock Ownership Plan.

McCreary finished his fifth season with Arizona as coach and assistant to senior Christina Berg, who earned All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention on the uneven bars and qualified for NCAA Regionals as an individual competitor. Throughout her four seasons with the GymCats, he mentored her to that rank.

Achievements and Honors

McCreary has been an industry pioneer and mentor to thousands of Gospel music artists over his 45-year career. He has received numerous accolades, such as the Bay Area’s Black Diamond Dynasty Living Legend Award and Producer of the Year.

He has also been recognized for his charitable contributions to Wake Forest University, including his most recent transformational gift that brings the total investment to nearly $55 million. This includes his leadership in securing the iconic McCrearyTower at Truist Field and funding athletic scholarships as well as Sutton Sports Performance Center.

He has had an illustrious career in law enforcement, serving as a sergeant with the Conroe Police Department from 1984 to 2005. During this time, he was one of the first recipients of their highest honor, the Deputy Commissioner’s Medal for meritorious service.

Personal Life

David McCreary was raised in a small Kansas town before joining the Conroe Police Department. According to his son Raymond, David became the first parent and child to serve on the force there – becoming both officers.

He began his career as a patrol officer and worked in various divisions of the department, such as traffic and narcotics. Additionally, he served as supervisor at Conroe Police Department-FBI Firearms Training Facility.

McCreary is renowned for his musical innovation and has received multiple Emmy nominations. He has composed music for numerous film and TV projects such as Crip Camp, Freaky & Happy Death Day, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and more; making him an in-demand composer who frequently collaborates with artists across different genres.
