David Witzke is a well-known artist in Cleveland for his vibrant, cartoonish and comical murals.
He is the beloved husband of Barbara-Jo Weko and father to Sterling, Mercedes and Peyton. Survived by brothers Gary (VA) and Walton (MN); sister Janet (Joe) McGowan (IL); nieces and nephews; dogs Spicer and Bones; as well as Chema and Simba his cats.
Early Life and Education
David Witzke was raised in Rochester, Minnesota. He attended his local high school before attending the University of Minnesota at Minneapolis.
After college, he attended medical school at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester and graduated with honors. Additionally, he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, an honor society for academics.
He was also the founding partner of RepCor, a manufacturer representation firm in California. He had an ardent passion for his work.
He spent his free time painting murals and drawing stuffed animals for friends. He currently works as a crane operator at a freight company. In addition to artwork for the Dim and Den Sum food truck, Shaker Cycles’ side mural, and Nick’s Diner’s wall painting project, he’s created several metal sculptures.
Professional Career
David witzke was an accomplished professional who excelled in multiple fields. A businessman by trade, he had a deep-seated love of family that transcended everything else. David instilled in his children an appreciation of art and history while encouraging them to live a life filled with adventure and discovery.
He had a knack for cooking and enjoyed making cheesecakes and homemade jams. Above all else, he was an devoted husband to his three children: Sterling, Mercedes and Peyton.
He had a long and distinguished career in the forensic digital imaging business. Affectionately known to his colleagues as Ski, he is widely considered one of the foremost experts in this area. Having worked alongside some of the world’s greatest forensic scientists, Ski has acquired an abundance of knowledge while possessing a passion for aiding law enforcement agencies solve their toughest crime cases.
Achievement and Honors
David Witzke was an all-around enthusiast who loved hunting, fishing and boating. His skills as a scuba diver were second to none, and when not at his family’s lake house entertaining friends or taking them fishing he enjoyed spending time in their company.
He was the proud parent of two children, Daniel and Rachel. All who knew him will miss him dearly.
His professional life culminated in his role as executive director of McKennan Hospital’s burn unit. A board certified plastic surgeon by trade, he also taught surgery at South Dakota State University and founded and CEO RepCor. On August 18th 2007 after a long struggle with colon cancer, he lost his battle. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Central Baptist Medical Missions or the National Colorectal Cancer Research Alliance.
Personal Life
Davidwitzke thoroughly enjoyed spending time with family and friends, as well as hunting and fishing.
He enjoyed attending his children’s soccer matches, where he was affectionately known as the “flag man.”
David’s life was filled with love and happiness. He was an adoring husband, proud father, and dedicated stepfather to his three children: Sean, Brian, and Maggie.
He was a loving and devoted brother, uncle, cousin, and friend to many. Predeceased by his parents William and Lydia (Hoeppener) Witzke, he leaves behind many loving memories.
