Donald Daniel – A Lifelong Community Hero

Donald Daniel was an active community member. He regularly volunteered his time for Food Finders, Legal Aid Corp, and Tippecanoe County Mental Health Association; additionally he enjoyed working on his 1967 Firebird and riding his 2015 Breakout Harley Davidson.

He hopes that through this scholarship program he can address racial inequities he has seen within the industry.

Early Life and Education

Donald Daniel was born in Ashtabula, Ohio as the fifth of five children. His family was tight-knit and supportive. Donald enjoyed baseball, gardening, biographies and reading in particular.

Grand Coulee High School graduate Christopher Jones attended Eastern Washington University and Gonzaga University prior to enlisting in the Navy where he spent four years aboard aircraft carriers before returning home for his degree at EWU.

He and his wife shared an affinity for music, gardening, and traveling; raising four kids in Kent while creating many joyful summer vacation memories at Sun Lakes. Together they were an adoring couple; later in life he established an endowment at UW to encourage Black students into architecture as professions.

Professional Career

Donald Daniel led an exceptionally rewarding career. Always true to his word and never charging more than necessary for services rendered, Donald adored his work with precision and passion; spending a great deal of time outdoors. Additionally he enjoyed tending his Gentleman’s Farm.

He has also been actively engaged in his community, giving back to those in need. He has spearheaded various charity efforts and danced with professional dancer Peta Murgatroyd on Dancing With the Stars; something which he and his wife hope to continue after retirement by creating an endowment that supports students of color interested in architecture careers.

Achievement and Honors

Patrick Donald Daniel is an esteemed businessperson who has held various leadership roles. He currently sits as a director in six different companies and chairs energy4everyone foundation, in addition to his memberships of Alberta Cancer Foundation and trusteeship at Lincoln Memorial University.

As well as his professional career, he is passionate about music and enjoys golfing – two passions he shares with many other members of his family as well as touring live around the globe performing live acts as well as being active philanthropists.

Don loves spending his free time tending to the animals on his gentleman’s farm and working on cars or riding his 2015 Breakout Harley Davidson motorcycle. Don is also an ardent Ohio State fan who regularly attends football and basketball games as well as supporting veterans.

Personal Life

Don finds great joy in helping others. He finds immense satisfaction knowing he has made an impactful difference in their lives by relieving their headache, helping prevent hip replacement surgery or simply encouraging physical fitness and activity. Don believes his joy lies in making an impactful contribution towards better lives for his patients.

Donald is blessed to be part of an extremely strong family unit, which includes his wife of 50 years Sharon, children Rick (Debbie) Twaro, Holly Karban and D.J. Daniel; grandchild Ricky Makenna Isiah Ireland Tanner as well as great grandchildren Madison Sam Clayton Alainna Debbie Estok as well as many nieces and nephews.

Don is also an avid sports fan, watching his beloved Browns and Cincinnati Reds play. An active member of his church, Don also teaches premarital classes there in his free time and spends his off hours spending time on his Gentleman’s Farm or cheering for Packers or Bucks victories!
