George Farris was born in Maine in 1900 to William E. Farris and Susie Evelyn Carter.
In 1980, his property was flooded due to a drainage issue that seeped into his basement through an alley behind his house. As a result, he filed suit against the District in Superior Court.
Early Life and Education
George Farris was born on March 29th 1935 in Youngstown, Ohio to Louis and Tackla (Nasser) Farris.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother who shared his affection with everyone he met. Additionally, he was an adoring friend to all.
His parents are interred at Liberty Cemetery in Liberty, Ohio. He is survived by his wife Jill M. Farris and daughters Sara Tubbs and Mary Eccles.
He was a graduate of Ursuline High School and proud member of the US Army National Guard, as well as being an active participant at St. Maron Church in Liberty. On April 11, 2017 he passed away suddenly from a heart attack. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to either American Lung Association or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in his memory.
Professional Career
George and Agnes have made a lasting contribution to their hometown through various initiatives. As early adopters of the community foundation model, they helped launch a scholarship fund at Hutchinson Technical High School that continues today.
George and Agnes are longtime supporters of their alma mater, even though they no longer teach. Additionally, they are active volunteers at both the hospital and in their community.
The greatest reward of their career has been witnessing the results of their labors. This year, Farris Marketing earned a national award from APTA for its work with Western Reserve Transit Authority. Furthermore, they have expanded their marketing resources and toolset in order to better serve their growing client base.
Achievements and Honors
George Ferris is an exemplary and esteemed individual. His list of accomplishments includes serving as firefighter for Greene Fire Department and emergency medical technician with United Ambulance.
He obtained a degree in engineering from the California Military Academy and worked as a railroad contractor for one year under General J.H. Ledlie, who imparted his knowledge on civil engineering.
At Indiana University, George Farris has held various committees and offices. His leadership abilities have earned him respect among students and faculty alike; he even received the Distinguished Alumni Award – given annually to exceptional alumni.
Personal Life
George Farris was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to many. A lifelong resident of Liberty and 1953 graduate of Ursuline High School, he served in the United States Army National Guard and belonged to St. Maron Church in Liberty.
He was an active member of the Damariscotta Mills Fish Ladder Restoration Committee and enjoyed many interests such as country music, fishing, and traveling throughout Maine.
He will be greatly missed by his family and friends for his infectious smile, sense of humor, as well as for being an incredible husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Survived by two daughters: Michele Farris of Austintown and Joy (Michael) Coman with whom he made his home; six grandchildren: Jacob, Ryan and Olivia Coman; Jacci and Danny Sebastian; John Burk; along with many nieces and nephews.
