George Wendel

George Wendel has had an illustrious career as an obstetrician. He has authored numerous articles, conference papers and reports in this field.

He is currently the Executive Director of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, having joined them in 2012 as an Assistant to the Director of Evaluation. Since 2013, he has held the role of Director for Maintenance of Certification on the board.

Early Life and Education

George Wendel, born on December 2, 1940 in Morocco, Indiana on a farm, passed away September 21st 2022 at 81 years of age.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Loyola University Chicago and master’s and doctoral degrees from Saint Louis University, where he also taught for many years.

From 1976 to 1983, Wendel worked as a research associate for the Governmental Studies program of Brookings Institution and under Richard P. Nathan on federal public service employment and community development block grant programs.

George and Corrine built their dream retirement home on Rockville Road with a barn and woods for horseback riding, easter egg hunts for the grandkids, and peaceful walks. As an avid historian and volunteer at Pinecrest Historical Village, George loved sharing this vision with others.

George Wendel has been involved in the construction industry since 1944. He started out working with his father and brother on agricultural land leveling projects and canal building, before eventually founding his own business.

George Wendel has been a highly esteemed member of the community for many years. He practiced as an OB/GYN and served as executive director of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG).

He is an esteemed scholar in urban affairs and has published multiple books. For his work in political science, he was honored with numerous awards including the esteemed William Penn Award.

He served as faculty in the Department of Public and International Affairs at Saint Louis University from 1964 to 1976, teaching political science, economics, and history. Additionally he was a research associate at Brookings Institution in Washington D.C. under Richard P. Nathan on federal employment and development block grant programs.

Personal Life

Wendel’s personal life was devoted to his family. He and his wife Anna Marie raised five children: Bret, Chad, Oliver, Jeni and Jill.

He was an active member of his local community and church, serving on numerous church boards. Additionally, he taught Sunday School classes and sang in a choir.

His greatest joy was watching his daughter blossom as part of a blended family and creating memories with her.

Nate has extensive experience in mechanical engineering for buildings, designing fire protection, heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems. He takes pleasure in working closely with clients to develop solutions that are efficient, effective and user-friendly.

Sa’Lena has been with Wendel since 2018, working closely with engineers on projects such as forcemains, waterlines, pump stations, storage tanks and water/wastewater treatment plant upgrades.
