Jack Brannigan – A Two-Way Player For the Pittsburgh Pirates

Early Life and Education
Most college players who can both hit and pitch tend to choose one path when drafted, but Pittsburgh Pirates drafted Jack Brannigan who can do both; on Saturday he made his professional debut at Low-A Bradenton level of Florida Complex League baseball.
Brannigan was selected in the 2022 MLB draft with the 83rd pick, coming from Notre Dame as both a third baseman and right-handed pitcher. While most likely playing utility position in the minors, his Pirates plans include giving him opportunities as both starter and reliever.
Atlantic Records’ Ahmet Ertegun heard Branigan sing at a talent contest and signed her, though her initial recording sessions proved disappointing. Following these sessions, she switched managers and ultimately gained success under Susan Joseph’s tutelage.

Brannigan has enjoyed an outstanding start with the Single-A Bradenton Marauders, hitting.333/.417/.714, with two doubles and two home runs in six games while also stealing three bases early. One such steal took place against Northwestern on Tuesday – an unforgettable run where he crawled home!
Achievement and Honors
Branigan earned first team PBR All-State and Statesboro Tournament All-Tournament team selection. Additionally, she was chosen as Daily Southtown All-Area representative. With her help, the Irish advanced to Knoxville Super Regional where in its final game Branigan hit a go ahead home run – helping lead them through to glory!
