Jack’s father operated one of Philadelphia’s earliest gasoline service stations when fuel was still manually pumped. Later he became an educator himself, serving as principal both in Plymouth-Whitemarsh school district and Glassboro State College (now Rowan University).
Jack traveled with Faye before the Kennedy-era embargo on travel to Cuba was enforced and explored Latin percussion, inspiring his passion and becoming a skilled drummer.
Jack was also an accomplished furniture and interior building designer, working alongside Faye to transform their Crestwood home from an 1891 Shaker farmhouse into a vibrant artistic community home that hosted numerous artists. They restored cars and built a barn for all their animals – while on top of all this helping others follow their passions and follow their dreams!
Professional Career
Jack Lutz worked as both a teacher and school administrator in Philadelphia before serving in the Peace Corps in Nigeria, Ethiopia and Poland. Later he served as an administrator in Plymouth-Whitemarsh School District to revitalize multiple schools within its boundaries.
Mr. Miller was an avid collector of rocks and gemstones who enjoyed traveling with his wife to national parks across western America. Additionally, he was an ardent supporter of the Denver Broncos football team while providing loads of love to his grandchildren.
He was an active member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, serving as exalted ruler at Keizer Lodge #2472 for more than 10 years in Oregon. Additionally, he enjoyed golfing and stamp collecting; being an engaged grandparent by attending many sporting events for his granddaughters and taking them out for ice cream treats.

Lutz was an enthusiastic traveler. Together with his wife, they spent much of their time abroad visiting such destinations as Jerusalem, Rome, Dachau and Katmandu – even adopting an Orinyan boy they named Abubakar Ahmedu!

Beginning with a distinguished teaching career in Philadelphia and Montgomery County schools before traveling overseas with the Peace Corps to Nigeria, Ethiopia, and Poland – nearly succumbing twice to malaria attacks before being roughed up by bandits; nonetheless he never gave up. Along the way he met friends such as Haile Selassie of Ethiopia as well as two-time Olympic marathon champion Abebe Bikila. Furthermore he served in leadership capacities within both Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks as well as volunteering firefighter duties – his final act before passing.
