Early Life and Education
In the early years (birth to five), a child develops their brain’s architecture, which gives them the foundation for future learning, behavior and health. It’s the most critical time in their development, so it’s important that children have access to healthy, stimulating experiences from birth.
The brain is incredibly impressionable, and it’s also hardwired to learn and imitate its surroundings. This is why early childhood education, or ECE, is so crucial.
UNESCO views the period from birth to eight as one of the most crucial windows of opportunity for a child’s development and one of the most effective investments a country can make.
National’s Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Education program teaches students how to teach young kids, with a focus on social, cultural and biological foundations for teaching. Students learn about current research in brain development and cognition, how to collaborate with families and staff, and how to design and implement an active learning environment.
