Early Life and Education
john buddenbaum was born in 1929. He grew up in Detroit, Michigan, with his father Oscar and mother Ollie. He was a graduate of Michigan State University and worked for the Top Hat Co. in Detroit for a number of years before moving to Metropolis, Illinois. He was a member of the Lutheran Church. He and his wife, Alyce Walker, operated East End Tavern in the city for several years before selling it. He was also a member of the Illinois State Bar Association and the American Bar Association. He died on December 29, 2007. Arrangements are being made by Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home in Metropolis.
Personal Life
When not working, Buddenbaum loved to travel. He visited many European cities including Prague, Vienna, Budapest and Paris with his wife and children. He also liked to fish and scuba dive. In addition to his passion for fishing, he was also an avid golfer. In addition to his love for golf, he was a big fan of basketball. He had a great love for his family and loved to travel with them.
On Saturday night, a few hours after a Windows on the River wedding, Lee Buddenbaum and a friend load up vases of flowers in her car and drive to St. Clair-Superior. The next day, she and volunteers from her nonprofit, BigHearted Blooms, will give the bouquets to seniors at Hough’s Eliza Bryant Village.
