John Lillywhite is a British producer renowned for creating the iconic big drum sound of the 80s. He collaborated with numerous artists such as XTC, Morrissey, Eddie And The Hot Rods, U2, The Pogues and many more to shape this iconic genre.

He is a graduate of the Canadian College of Massage and Hydrotherapy, having acquired extensive expertise in acupuncture theory, qigong, tai ji, Ayurveda, neurotherapy and yoga. His passion for health and wellbeing has driven his professional career as an Osteopath.

Early Life and Education

John Lillywhite was an influential producer in the 1980s, producing albums by internationally-acclaimed artists such as U2, Talking Heads, and Rolling Stones as well as new wave pioneers Siouxsie & the Banshees, Ultravox, and Psychedelic Furs.

He began his career at Phonogram, a music recording studio in Marble Arch, London, as a tape operator. Over time he rose through the ranks and eventually became an engineer himself.

At the conclusion of 1859 English cricket season, he was one of 12 players selected for its inaugural overseas tour when an English team led by George Parr visited North America. While on this journey he collected numerous match scores and biographies of early cricketers.

Professional Career

Lillywhite was a premier cricketer who represented Sussex County Cricket Club from 1825 to 1853. He is credited as being an innovator of what would later be known as “round-arm” bowling – the waist-height technique which eventually replaced underarm bowling.

At some point in his career, he also umpired. On August 26th 1862 in an All England match against Surrey, he no-balled Edgar Willsher six times for deliveries that were considered illegally high.

After his retirement from cricket, he capitalized on his name and reputation by opening a retail store called Lillywhites near Euston Square in London that sold cricketing goods.

John Lillywhite has been instrumental in the establishment of Kainos, a company that has seen incredible success in telecoms and energy. A graduate of Harvard Business School, John has received numerous awards for his work at Kainos.

His career culminated in being honored with a Distinguished Honors Award by the Employee Benefit Research Institute for his lifetime contributions to retirement security in America. Additionally, he served as keynote speaker at EBRI’s Defined Contribution West conference in San Francisco.
