John Mauello, a Chicago-area businessman, was an enthusiastic supporter of harness racing. Additionally, he had a deep commitment to animal welfare and served on the boards of managers for both Valentine Boys & Girls Club and Animal Welfare League organizations.

He was the founder and owner of Maurello Services Inc., a truck and trailer repair business. Additionally, John Jansen his friend noted that Maurello served on the board of directors at Chicago Community Bank until recently.

Early Life and Education

John Maurello was born in 1956 and grew up in Bridgeport, Illinois. After attending college at Rutgers University, he earned a master of public administration from The American University in Washington D.C.

He married Lauren and was a proud papa to Levi and Ava. He loved spending time with his family – truly the ideal husband and dad anyone could ask for!

He had a passion for harness racing and was an enthusiastic supporter of both the Illinois Harness Horsemen’s Association and Animal Welfare League, raising money through Night at the Races dinner outings. Additionally, he heavily supported Super Night at Balmoral Park – one of the premier races for Illinois-bred pacers and trotters – through sponsorship.

Professional Career

John Maurello is a Managing Director of Private Client Services for SIFMA, the Securities Industry Association. At SIFMA he works to improve their member firms’ and clients’ experiences related to Private Client practices.

He serves as a Managing Editor of SIFMA’s quarterly publication, The SIFMA Newsletter, which is read by 6,000 of the industry’s most esteemed business leaders.

He holds the distinction of being one of only 34 physicians worldwide to be named a Fellow of the American College of Phlebology, having dedicated his medical career to improving diagnosis and treatment for venous disease. At his clinic in Virginia Beach, he has implemented cutting-edge technologies like an ambulatory phlebectomy machine. Furthermore, he frequently presents at national conferences and lectures related to vein disease.

Achievements and Honors

John Maurello has achieved a great deal and earned himself numerous accolades throughout his career. Additionally, he served on the committee for the National Association of Securities Professionals and is an honorary member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

He served as a member of the New York City Comptroller’s Office, managing their Law Enforcement, Environmental Protection and Economic Development Audits. His responsibilities included conducting operational/management audits that resulted in significant cost savings and revenue enhancements for the City.

At West Holmes High School, he earned the Aultcare Team Spirit Award Scholarship and Franklin B. Walter Award for academic achievement and honors. Additionally, he was given the Ray Kroc Award, given to students who exemplify high school and community spirit.

Personal Life

John Maurello prioritized his family above all else. He was the perfect father and husband, taking on all financial responsibilities so his wife Lauren could focus on being a stay at home mom for their children Levi and Ava.

He enjoyed spending time outdoors and was an enthusiastic hunter and fisherman. A proud member of the Walker Rifle Club, where he served as captain before receiving a lifetime membership for his services.

Former payroll manager at the Art Institute of Chicago, Maurello was indicted for allegedly misappropriating more than $2 million in museum funds over a 10-year period. To conceal his activities, Maurello altered direct deposit information or altered transactions’ nature.
