On Thursday, Hall of Fame jockey Javier Castellano tested positive for COVID-19 according to his agent John Panagot. While required to undergo a physical at Gulfstream Park in order to continue riding, Castellano has since been “asymptomatic” and feels fine, Panagot revealed.
Professional Career
Panagot, a New York-based agent, has represented many renowned jockeys, including Hall of Famer Javier Castellano. Additionally, he represents top North American rider Florent Geroux who has amassed nearly $140 million in purse earnings throughout his career. Additionally, Panagot serves as racing manager for noted owner Robert LaPenta and has provided Geroux with mounts on Mandaloun, Horse of the Year Gun Runner, Work All Week and many more Grade 1 winners throughout his tenure with them.
In March, Castellano changed his agent from Doug Bredar to Panagot. This change should allow him to focus more on riding high-quality horses rather than collecting mounts on lesser horses with less value.
