Early Life and Education
John Romney was born in Salt Lake City, Utah. He received his bachelor’s degree in 1971 from Brigham Young University and earned a master’s degree in business administration in 1975.
He also earned his law degree, cum laude, from Harvard Law School. He founded Bain Capital in 1984.
His father, George Romney, was a successful business executive who managed American Motors from near bankruptcy to record profits. He later served as governor of Michigan (1963-69).
Professional Career

Romney was a businessman who served as the governor of Massachusetts from 2003 to 2007. He also ran for president in 2008 and 2012.
As a senator, he remained committed to the state’s budget and made health care for all citizens a priority. He emphasized the need to invest in infrastructure and wildfire prevention and response capabilities.
He was also known for his support of the Navajo Utah Water Rights Settlement Act, which would provide running water to 40% of the Navajo Nation that hasn’t had access to it for decades.
