John Salone – A Lifelong Geneva Resident
John Salone was born and raised in Geneva, a lifelong resident of the city. He was an esteemed figure within its community and served on the City Council for Sixth Ward.
He is survived by his daughters, Javana Salone of Lyons and Chloe Salone of Lyons; mother Vinnie Salone of Geneva; dog Zuccera; sisters Lorraine Marshall (Geneva), Linda Lisi (Geneva), Sharon Salone (Geneva) and Debbie Salone-Wheeler (Waterloo); former spouse Joanne Greco-Eddy (Lyons); several nieces, nephews, close friends and special neighbors.
Early Life and Education
John Salone was a native of Geneva and graduated from DeSales High School. Before returning home, he served as Mayor of Lyons and directed the Lyons Community Center before returning to Geneva where he took care of his mother while serving as General Manager for the Geneva Red Wings – a position to which he took great pride and dedicated much time and energy.
He adored baseball and was an ardent supporter of the New York Yankees. Additionally, he enjoyed painting, woodworking, cooking, baking, cigars and gardening. A member of St. Francis deSales Church, Handy Man’s Club of America and North American Fishing Club, his hobbies were extensive.
Achievements and Honors
John was a true Renaissance man, an expert in construction and gardening. He was passionate about his beloved New York Yankees and enjoyed gardening as much as possible. Additionally, John belonged to St. Francis de Sales church and The Handy Man’s Club of America; most importantly however, John was proud husband and father to his three children: John W. Salone III of Lyons; Linda Lisi of Geneva; and Sharon (Mark) Salone Newland also of Geneva.
Personal Life
John Salone was an active community member. A Geneva native, he served as mayor of Lyons and director of the Lyons Community Center. Additionally, he held positions such as Ward 6 Councilor in Geneva City, General Manager for Geneva Red Wings Baseball, and devotee to Sons of Italy. John also enjoyed painting, woodworking and cigars – his passion!
He was an enthusiastic Harley Davidson rider, music fanatic and guitar player. Additionally, he was an enthusiastic New York Yankees fan. Predeceased by his parents Harold and Mary Farley, Rexine (Buxton), his two sons John and Matthew Farley, as well as many family members and friends, Hall Funeral Home of Geneva is handling arrangements for him.
