In 2015, Allsorts Gallery opened its doors in Olympia’s vibrant art scene. Their vision has revolutionized the area’s visual arts community.
Early Life and Education
John Lynette was born in Brooklyn, New York and graduated from several prestigious schools such as the Chapin School in Manhattan and Miss Porter’s School.
She was a legendary Rumsey Hall luminary and beloved friend, serving on the School’s Board of Trustees from 1986-1992. She was proud mother to Paul Linc Cornell P ’72, Steven Cornell ’74, Michael Cornell ’84 and Melinda Cornell Moran; also grandmother to Christina Cornell ’06 Ruel Nicholas Cornell ’08 Alexander Cornell’11 and Colby Moran ’17.
Lynette’s passion for art and social justice guided much of her life. Her Missing Women series showcased her commitment to social change, while Allsorts Gallery helped foster a sense of belonging among local artists through its programming. Furthermore, Lynette served on the Development Boards at New Milford Hospital, The Washington Club, and The Frederick Gunn School.
Professional Career
John has been an actor for over three decades, performing at Harlequin Productions, Theater Artists Olympia and Animal Fire Theater. In his spare time he enjoys reading a variety of books but especially those related to art.
The Serembes have graciously opened up their home to showcase the work of local visual artists at Allsorts Gallery, making their opening reception one of Olympia’s most anticipated events!
Lynette is an accomplished painter renowned for her Missing Woman series. Her commitment to social justice drives her work and she always stands ready to lend a helping hand. For many years now, Lynette has been an integral part of the Olympia community and continues to inspire many with her vibrant artwork.
Achievements and Honors
Lynette was an accomplished scholar, earning a BS in psychology from San Jose State. She then moved on to Victor, working at a non-public school where she quickly earned a reputation for unlocking the potential in even the most challenging students.
Throughout her career, she served on numerous academic and professional committees. She earned numerous accolades, including the esteemed ABA Award of Excellence in Public Service for her work in special education.
Lynette is credited with orchestrating the first successful hurricane relief shipment to the BVI. As an active volunteer within her community, she often goes above and beyond to meet those in need. A member of Rotary Club Tortola, she organizes fundraisers regularly, in addition to being involved with numerous tourism-related groups.
Personal Life
John Lynette was an adoring wife and mother. She valued everyone who crossed her path, treating them with kindness, compassion, and generosity.
She was an active participant in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving as a leader for young women’s and primary organizations.
In her free time, she enjoyed reading, gardening and traveling. Additionally, she had a deep-seated passion for sports – watching basketball, football and baseball games was one of her favorite past times.
Her husband Tom and daughter Penny were an integral part of her life, and she did everything to support them. Together they even went on several trips to Europe. Tom and she had a special bond; they shared six grandchildren between them.
