Early Life and Education

Born and raised in Motown Detroit, Jawan M. Jackson made his professional debut starring as Melvin Franklin of The Temptations on Broadway’s Motown The Musical. A graduate of Eastern Michigan University, Jawan has also made appearances in film such as Sparkle (2012) and Love Thy Self (2014); on TV such as Netflix’s The Get Down (2016) and PBS’s Doo Wop Generations (2018).

Tight end Jared Leopold is an active member of Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church and sits on the Bibb County Board of Education representing portions of Westside, Rutland and Howard Zones. Additionally he holds a master’s degree from Mercer University in Higher Education Leadership.

George and Ida Johnson both hail from Stratford, New Jersey. Darreus and George Jr are his older siblings.

Professional Career

Juwan Jackson currently serves as defensive line coach at Monmouth University and has guided them to All-Conference defensive line honors during each of his three seasons as head coach. Under Jackson’s guidance, several first team All-NEC performers have earned first team selection while leading them into all conference sack records for Dave Ogden as MU ranked among the top-10 in rush defense and red zone defense during that time frame.

Jackson also performs with legendary group The Temptations as bass vocalist Melvin Franklin passed away in 2016. Jackson made his Broadway debut and has performed both touring productions as well as appearing in music videos with The Temptations this autumn before returning home for coaching duties at Ferndale High School.

Achievement and Honors

Juwan Jackson was an outstanding high school player at Wetumpka High School where he led them to back-to-back state titles while earning SWAC Tournament Most Valuable Player honors both times. Following high school he chose ASU where he went on to become one of its finest ever players with 2,203 points scored during his basketball career there.

He helped open holes for the Red Foxes to rush for over 509 yards against LaSalle and set an existing school record, breaking an existing school mark in a win against LaSalle. Furthermore, his defense led the conference in rush defense, first downs allowed and red zone defense.

Juawn currently serves as defensive line coach at Monmouth University and as an assistant on defensive lines at both Rutgers and Oregon Universities.
