Kevin Oliver is a Faculty Member at NC State University and an Emmy Award-Winning Editor

Kevin Oliver has been teaching in NC State’s College of Education for 17 years and provides leadership at all levels for its Learning, Design and Technology (LDT) program area. Additionally, Kevin mentors multiple doctoral students through chairing 13 completed and 12 active doctoral dissertation committees.

Kevin Oliver decided to channel his grief into helping others by founding two organizations to do just that.

Early Life and Education

Kevin Oliver is an Emmy-award winning editor based out of New York and Los Angeles who specializes in documentaries films, commercial videos, investigative news pieces, reality TV series & documentaries TV shows as well as behind the scenes featurettes and social media videos. Additionally he works as an entrepreneur and artist.

He began busking at sporting events, parks and street corners around Atlanta to share his talent with the world. His inspiration came from artists like Cecile McLorin Salvant, Charlie Parker and Dave Chappelle who challenged the notion that performers couldn’t excel in multiple areas simultaneously.

He has taught at NC State for 17 years, primarily graduate-level courses through Learning Design & Technology programs. His research interests center around technical cultural representations and distance education quality; since 2011, he has led NC State’s study abroad program by training teachers how to utilize different tools and approaches when working within international settings.

Professional Career

Oliver finds it immensely rewarding to witness students’ perseverance when teaching TALON yearbook and Introduction to Journalism courses, as well as coaching the cross country team, which required strict discipline among a group of individuals with different proficiency levels.

Kevin Oliver believes in an approach to education which prioritizes human values while giving students all of the tools needed for success. Additionally, Kevin’s passion is music – currently leading his band “The Artist Creates”. Additionally he offers private saxophone lessons.

Since 2005, Dr. Osipow has been teaching at NC State and serving in leadership roles in learning design and technology degree programs (undergraduate, master’s, doctoral). Additionally, he is nationally renowned for STEM-oriented distance and online learning strategies having received over $3 Million as Principal or Co-PI grants from external sources.

Achievement and Honors

Kevin Oliver is an accomplished musician who has performed at venues like Alice Tully Hall and Peter Jay Sharp Theater, and festivals like Berklee Jazz Workshop, Skimdore Jazz Institute and Interlochen. His inspirations include Cecile McLorin Salvant, Miles Davis, John Coltrane and Dave Chappelle; he hopes to disprove the notion that musicians and comedians cannot excel simultaneously in both fields.

He has led Purdue distance and cross country runners to record-setting seasons since 1985. In 2019, they made their inaugural NCAA Team Appearance since then. He enjoys running through the mountains as much as reading or playing chess – in addition to being an active volunteer within his community.

As a youngster, he began performing at sporting events, parks and street corners to share his musical talent. Later at Juilliard he honed his craft further playing for Sean Jones’ inaugural year of NYO Jazz directed by him and becoming a 2019 YoungArts Finalist. Additionally he has toured as a musician alongside Endea Owens, Jon Batiste and Giveton Gelin among many others.

As well as his acting career, he is also a prolific musician – having recorded four albums and taking part in multiple tours he also holds an interest in Yellowstone TV show.

His relationship with Cindy Silva is strong; together they own a ranch in Ventura, California.
