Oliver Outdoor is a family owned and operated outdoor advertising company located in Butler, Pennsylvania and founded by brothers Jerry and Jaymie Oliver in 2001. They strive to give voice to local community members and small business owners. Through providing superior one-on-one customer service, quality outdoor displays, attractive locations and superior one-on-one customer support they serve Allegheny Armstrong Beaver Butler Clarion Lawrence Mercer Westmoreland counties of western Pennsylvania.
Early Life and Education
Oliver was raised in rural northern Connecticut, forming an appreciation of nature and its surroundings. After attending Connecticut Agricultural College (now University of Connecticut), he went on to work in his family’s wood model and pattern business.
Education and health have always been closely interlinked, yet outdoor learning provides another means of exploring this relationship throughout a student’s lifetime. Outdoor learning offers one pedagogical approach which may enhance school engagement and student skill development while improving health and wellbeing as well as enjoyment of schooling. Three themes emerged during interviews and focus groups: expectations/experiences/influencers and impact on learners’ health/wellbeing which this article explores along with any suggestions for further research or implementation of such methods in schools.
Professional Career
Oliver was introduced to a range of disciplines by his parents – dance, piano lessons, jazz music lessons, jazz diving lessons, gymnastics and karate were among them – from piano lessons and jazz dancing lessons through piano playing lessons, jazz piano playing lessons and jazz diving to gymnastics and karate training. But Oliver ultimately discovered ballet. Since then he has performed internationally with Houston Ballet II & MET Dance at George R Brown Convention Center as well as choreographing for REACH which supports arts education in Houston area.
In 2022, Oliver returned to North Carolina Central University as its head football coach and led them to win both the Cricket Celebration Bowl and HBCU national championship game. They finished 10-2 for the year including victories over North Carolina A&T State and Jackson State; making him the only MEAC coach ever to capture two consecutive conference championships.
Achievement and Honors
Oliver outdoor distinguished herself across many sports, earning multiple accolades from her teammates. She won three America East Conference championships – 400 and medley relays respectively – as well as four All-American titles in swimming and diving, and received the Ed Rollinson Award as most outstanding student-athlete at Oliver Ames High School in Easton, Massachusetts. Additionally she participated in golf, basketball and outdoor track & field.
She has served on the boards of numerous organizations and been honored with numerous awards and honors, most recently through Alley Cat Allies to educate communities on declawing — an outdated procedure which harms cats’ physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing – which she presented her Oliver award for to city and shelter officials who collaborate with Alley Cat Allies’ Atlantic City Boardwalk Cats Project which has saved thousands of community cats while enriching life for all residents.
