Rene Daniels is a Famous Painter from Netherlands
Rene Daniels is a celebrated painter from Netherlands. At 69, he prefers keeping his personal life private and prefers not to share much about himself publicly.
He was an incredible painter until suffering a stroke which temporarily incapacitated him for three years. His works display a feverish tentativeness which mirrors how he approached his practice.
Early Life and Education
Nikki Rene Daniels (BFA Musical Theatre ’01) and her husband Jeff Kready, an established musician in Cincinnati Pops Orchestra, came together for an hour-long holiday concert on Dec 12, 2020 to share a selection of favorite holiday tunes with online audiences.
Once Daniels returned from art school, he quickly gained recognition as an influential representative of new Dutch painting. His paintings embodied a vision of painting as visual poetry exemplified by their bold combination of complementary colors and juxtaposition of arboreal cartographies and diagrams found in Lentebloesem series. Daniels also engaged in graphic design and published several books. A comprehensive exhibition featuring his works traveled throughout 1998 through Stedelijk Van Abbemuseum Wolfsburg Kunsthalle Basel.
Since graduating from UC College-Conservatory of Music in 2010, Daniels has been understudying various roles on Broadway, such as Ariel from “The Little Mermaid” and Jenny in “Company.” Landing a lead role was like realizing her dream come true.
Daniels’ work can be described as mental painting with reduced and archetypal images; its ambiguous references span art history, literature and everyday life. Daniels is often called visual poet due to the subtle ambiguities in her art work.
Documenta 7 and 17th Bienal de Sao Paulo exhibitions have featured his artwork. He also had solo shows at Wiels Contemporary Art Center (Brussels) and Mamco (Geneva). After suffering a brain haemorrhage in 1987, he continues making art today from Eindhoven, Netherlands.
Achievement and Honors
Daniels was involved in many civic activities beyond being an artist, such as serving on the Nichols College trustee board and serving on Webster town advisory board. Additionally, he belonged to American Legion and delivered meals through Meals on Wheels programs.
His works can be found in numerous prominent collections, including those held by the Museum of Modern Art (New York); Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg; S.M.A.K in Ghent and Stedelijk Van Abbemuseum in Amsterdam. Perhaps his best-known series of drawings, Lentebloesem, was inspired by film reels, safety pins, buildings, and anatomical parts – and which became iconic worldwide.
Erik Van Lieshout attempts to form a personal relationship with Daniels, who now finds it hard or unwilling to communicate. The result is an intimate portrait of both him and his works.
Nikki Rene Daniels is an award-winning stage actor renowned for her expansive musical theater resume that includes roles such as Angelica Schuyler in Hamilton at Broadway’s David Geffen Hall and Clara in Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess. Additionally, she has made multiple television and big screen appearances.
Daniels’ work, inspired by European punk and no wave from the 1970s and 80s, may be less self-consciously critical than Magritte or Duchamp’s but is nevertheless profoundly influential. Major presentations have documented Daniels’s development including Is Painting Always Part of a Greater Whole at Van Abbemuseum and Museo Reina Sofia (2011); Fragments of an Unfinished Novel at Wiels in Brussels (2018) which then traveled to Mamco Geneva in 2019.
