Steve R Shawley, 63, of Bainbridge Island, Washington, passed away on March 13, 2013.

Steve Shawley was a long-term resident of Bainbridge Island who loved fishing, long drives with friends and March Madness. He will be deeply missed.

Shawley has been with Trane since it was acquired by our company in 2008 and will retire later this year, leaving a seamless transition for their successor to take place.

Early Life and Education

Steve was known for being gruff on the outside but generous and kind on the inside. He enjoyed fishing trips with his buddies, March Madness tournaments, and playing music.

In 1977, Shawley was hired by the NPS to curate its new museum at Nez Perce National Park. At that point in time he had formed close ties with dealers of Indian artifacts and had begun treating park’s collection like his personal one. Roderick Sprague expressed concerns that Shawley may not be qualified enough as curator.

He was born in southwestern Pennsylvania and graduated from Slippery Rock University and Gannon University. He had two children – a daughter and son. He lived in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia before succumbing to pancreatic cancer at 79.

Professional Career

Steve Shawley has held various professional roles for more than 39 years. Currently he serves as senior vice president and chief financial officer of Ingersoll Rand; previously, he held similar responsibilities at Thermo King prior to its acquisition by Ingersoll Rand in 2008. In addition, Steve held various positions at Westinghouse Electric Corporation.

He was an active member of Yarnell United Methodist Church and enjoyed attending family gatherings, Penn State football games, shopping trips, eating out at Grange Fair and video gaming sessions with friends. Additionally he enjoyed fishing trips and taking many fishing trips with them as well. He will be missed greatly and survived by Tamara his wife; daughter; grandchildren as well as parents who predeceased him in death.

Furthermore, Shawley initiated and spearheaded Ingersoll Rand plc’s enterprise risk management program as well as serving on numerous board member positions over many years – something neither Trane or Thermo King could do without.

Personal Life

Shawley DeFelice grew up in Bellefonte Pennsylvania as the son of Jennie and Stephen DeFelice. He graduated from Norwin High School in 1992 before going on to play football for Penn State.

He served as fullback for Penn State’s Nittany Lions and made six appearances at H-back position, rushing 87 yards on eight carries while also catching one pass for 8 yards.

Steven Shawley, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Ingersoll-Rand plc plans to step down by the end of 2013. He has held this position since 2008 when Trane was acquired; prior to this he spent over twenty years working for Westinghouse Electric Corporation in various financial positions.
