Thomas Calabrese, D-Cliffside Park, is a Democrat and a Lifelong resident of the Neighborhood

Thomas Calabrese has long been involved with Cliffside Park politics. While playing basketball at St. John’s University he earned all-America honors and went on to play three seasons in the National Basketball Association.

His research interests lie in intelligent software design and data analytics for information security compliance engineering, with work published in academic journals such as Perspectives on Computer Science.

Early Life and Education

Few years ago, Gerry Calabrese earned all-America honors while playing for St. John’s University and later the Syracuse Nationals of the National Basketball Association. Now, Calabrese’s name has once again made headlines due to a surprising career change he undertook following this announcement.

Culver Bakery quickly won acclaim from customers due to its seasonal cookie trays and festive “Yule logs.” Additionally, Calabrese managed the local branch of the Federal Reserve Bank as well as advising multiple businesses.

Tom Calabrese lives full-time in Cliffside Park and takes an active part in its community life. He maintains an open door policy for constituents while overseeing a police department which has helped ensure it remains one of the safest communities in New Jersey. Tom has obtained millions in grants to carry on the legacy of his late father, the esteemed Gerald Calabrese (deceased).

Professional Career

He studies how intelligent software design and data analytics can enhance information security compliance engineering. This field has become ever more important as companies and government agencies work to keep increasingly sensitive information secure.

Calabrese taught at Johnson & Wales University for 22 years prior to joining USJ, designing curriculum and lab environments for the National Security Agency/Department of Homeland Security Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education during that time.

Cliffside Park native, Richard Cochran is known for living by an open door policy for residents. He regularly attends grand openings and anniversary galas of local businesses while servicing many restaurants and taverns within his borough. Furthermore, Cochran oversees Cliffside Park Police Department to make it one of New Jersey’s safest municipalities.

Achievement and Honors

Calabrese held several leadership roles at APTA and led the Cleveland Regional Transportation Authority, overseeing buses, heavy and light rail lines and an innovative downtown trolley system. For his dedication to public transit he received many honors and awards – including the Gold Medallion Award from APTA.

Calabrese joined the Council as a Democrat in 2001 and stated at his first reorganization meeting that development would be one of his top priorities during his first term. He noted the progress being made on town center projects on Anderson Avenue and luxury midrise residential midrise in Zalewski Park neighborhood on Adolphus Avenue.

Calabrese is the proud parent of three children and grandfather of seven. His late father, Gerald “Gerry” Calabrese was an influential Bergen County politician and served three terms as county freeholder.

Personal Life

Calabrese has long been a resident of Cliffside Park and prides himself on providing open doors and working around the clock to meet constituent needs. He frequently attends grand openings and anniversary galas for local businesses while acting as Fedway Associates sales executive serving dozens of restaurants and taverns across both Fort Lee and Cliffside Park as sales executive for liquor distribution firm Fedway Associates.

He has published numerous academic articles regarding online academic misconduct and presented on this subject at several conferences – such as CSTA North East Regional Conference.

He was the proud and adoring father of Lisa, Stephanie, Anthony and Natalie as well as an adored grandfather to seven grandchilden. Josephine survives him; the funeral will be private with burial taking place at Holy Cross Cemetery in Montvale.

He is also an active real estate agent in his community. For decades he has worked hard helping his clients buy or sell properties. Furthermore, he serves as a member of the Democratic committee in Cliffside Park as well as attending grand openings and anniversary celebrations with pleasure.
