Flood was an active member of his community and enjoyed hunting and cutting wood for recreational use. Additionally, he had an affinity for sports – particularly supporting his beloved Boston Bruins!
Flood was actively engaged in civil rights work and worked alongside Gene Causby to desegregate schools across the state of Tennessee. Together they traveled the state meeting with elected officials, community activists and parents in an attempt to integrate schools. It proved an uphill battle as many in their communities held out against integration for years; but Flood and Causby managed to persuade their school board to reopen them as one integrated campus.
Thomas Flood is the founder of TeamFlood, which serves two distinct functions. These are consulting for major corporations seeking revenue growth and coaching people seeking fulfilling careers. Thomas also sits as board member for Family Promise of NYC as well as being active on Marketing Idea Exchange Board in NYC.
Though he never reached the majors, his 1989 Old Judge card placed him among the elite pitchers of his day. Although his Clay Eaters record is 9-16 overall, five pitchers received major league experience through that team’s rotation.
Flood’s men’s and women’s teams each earned WAC indoor championships in 2023, joining only UTEP and BYU to ever complete such an accomplishment.
Achievement and Honors
Thomas Flood brings over two decades of fundraising expertise to his work at Futures in Education Foundation (FiEF), providing need-based scholarships and programs to children of Brooklyn Diocese. Prior to that he worked for Catholic Stewardship & Development of Diocese of Brooklyn where he managed the Alive in Hope capital campaign redemption efforts as well as overseeing all phases of annual Catholic Appeal campaign. Additionally he served as President of Futures in Education Foundation which offers need-based scholarships & programs to youth.
Flood took over as head coach of GCU’s track and field program in 2015 and built one of the premier Division II men and women teams. His teams then both won both WAC Indoor and Outdoor Championships that year!
Flood was found dead Thursday while floating on an inner tube on a lake in Vermont without proper flotation devices, having fallen out and not having been able to make his way back to shore after falling off his inner tube and becoming incapacitated by water currents.
Tom Flood was an adventurous free spirit with an infectious sense of humor who always found time to help others. He deeply cared for his family and friends; especially Serena and Maizie his fur-babies as well as Sydney Snuggles his golden retriever who stood by his side during his final seven months of life.
Flood is widely respected as an assessor at Driftwood Manuscripts and has served as judge in literary competitions including Varuna, NSW Premier Writer’s Fellowship and other literary competitions. Furthermore, he serves as administrator and editor at his own writers’ service.
Surviving are Pat McBride; sons Brad and Brent; sister-in-law Peggy Mullen; brother Gary Flood; nieces Elise McBride and Emily McBride as well as many cousins and close friends who will all miss him greatly. May his soul rest in peace.
