Thomas Karam has spent decades immersed in the energy sector. His expertise includes capital markets and bank financing, restructuring activities, mergers & acquisitions as well as productivity enhancement and financial controls and processes.
He currently sits on various boards, such as those of EQM Midstream Partners LP and EQGP Holdings LP.
Early Life and Education
Karam has spent his entire professional life working in education – first as a teacher himself before moving up the ranks to principal of John F. Kennedy Middle School, assistant principal at Thomas R. Proctor Elementary and briefly assistant superintendent for 9,000-student district. For five years prior to being appointed superintendent he served as Director of Secondary Education; that will remain part of his remit as district administrator.
He’s an incredible teacher; he really cares for his students. His lectures are so interesting, you won’t notice class! With just one test and presentation assignment per class period, anyone can do well in his course.
He combines French and English fluency, three college degrees, an accomplished pianist background and has raised money for cancer research to his credit. Additionally, he completed several long course triathlons before finally attaining his pilot’s license.
Thomas Karam serves as CEO and Chairman of Equitrans Midstream Corporation (Equitrans), a public master limited partnership that owns, operates, and manages midstream energy assets. He was appointed to these roles in July 2019. Until November 2018 when they separated, Karam also held senior vice presidency at EQT Corporation (EQT) as president for Midstream operations before then transitioning over to Equitrans Midstream Corporation.
Dr. Karam is widely respected for establishing LSU’s sports marketing curriculum two decades ago and training Tiger athletes on media relations and personal branding – particularly quarterback Joe Burrow, safety Grant Delpit and center Lloyd Cushenberry for SEC Media Days this week.

Achievement and Honors
Thomas Karam has received many prestigious honors and awards, including the Nell Mitchell Doughty Lifetime Achievement Award from Sales and Marketing Executives-Greater Baton Rouge and two Hughes and Boeing Technical Excellence awards. Additionally, he has published over two hundred papers and holds twenty patents.
Karam is widely recognized for providing students with real-world examples on how to succeed in business. He shows genuine affection towards his pupils, regularly witnessing their success after graduating.

Thomas Karam is an entrepreneur and businessperson. He founded Delphi Midstream Partners LLC, Laser Midstream Partners LLC, PennTex Midstream Partners LLC and Karbon Partners LLC – and currently oversees 17 different businesses as Chairman, Chief Executive Officer, and Director.
Karam has been teaching Tiger athletes about personal branding and media relations since the 1990s. His students include quarterback Joe Burrow, safety Grant Delpit and center Lloyd Cushenberry among many others.
Karam keeps three DVDs out of respect for one of his students – Shaquille O’Neal is among them – in a drawer underneath his desk that’s covered with legal pads scribbled with notes and newspapers from last week. One includes footage that Karam taught to market O’Neal after his basketball career ended.
Thomas Karam currently serves as Chairman, Chief Executive Officer, and Director for Equitrans Midstream Corporation. Until their acquisition by Equitrans Midstream in November 2018 from Oct 2018 until Nov 2018, Thomas also chaired both EQM Midstream Partners LP (EQM) and EQGP Holdings LP (EQGP), both publicly traded master limited partnerships.
Mr. Karam is a well-recognized entrepreneur with extensive experience in developing and operating energy infrastructure businesses, including Delphi Midstream Partners LLC, Laser Midstream Partners LLC and PennTex Midstream Partners LLC. In spite of having negative net worth at sentencing time, the district court accepted Karam’s Presentence Investigation Report’s factual findings as proof that he could make payments towards his restitution obligations.
